Our first ever ashbourne triathlon was an event for all
The Ashbourne Triathlon - Sunday 22 May Wilmslow Leisure Centre
Our first ever Ashbourne Triathlon, and it was a fabulous event for novice triathletes! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped create such a great atmosphere!
We knew that Ashbourne would be a great novice event, so well done if this was your first triathlon and we hope you enjoyed it and want to come back for more! Derbyshire Council and Ashbourne leisure centre were so helpful on the day, along with our event crew and marshals.
The weather was glorious on Sunday, something our marshals are always grateful for out on the course as well as in the race village area. A big thank you to all the friends and family who came out to support the competitors, your enthusiastic support helped to make the event such a big success. For the results please click here.
The pool at Ashbourne is great for the swim but quite a long way to run from the pool to transition, so next year we will definitely remind people that they can use trainers if they want to.
The cycle route from Ashbourne was deceptive, with some fast stretches, taking you out to the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. We hope you managed despite the couple of unexpected obstacles thrown our way on the day, thanks for your patience over the cycle. Most people coming into transition had managed to save some energy for the run!
We took advantage of the natural beauty of the Tissington Trail for the run. We hope you enjoyed it, it was easy to pace yourself, and mostly downhill on the return leg, which is always a relief.
We hope you enjoyed the sweet treats at the finish line, even if the jaffa cakes were melting in the sun, and that you wore your 2016 finisher’s medal with pride. We loved seeing everyone on the day making the most of the photo opportunity at the new winners’ circle board!
We have to say a big congratulations and thanks to all the tri clubs who took part and supported the event, it gave a great sense of occasion to the event and something for novices to aspire to. Well done to winner David Boyes who was the only person on the day to finish the entire course in under the hour!
We had great feedback on the day and in our post event surveys. We will be following up your comments and using them to provide a better race for everyone next time.
