template_copy.jpgThe Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon, an ETU European Championship Qualifier, took place on the famous motor racing circuit on Sunday 5th October 2014 and saw a total of 625 athletes cross the finish line.  

Oulton Park is of the country's finest motor racing circuits and is becoming recognized as a top Duathlon venue, it offers many unique features including a traffic free race track, super smooth tarmac, transition in the pits and a banked hairpin, which all make for great racing.

 The event featured a sprint as well as a standard distance race, both open to elite, amateur and novice racers. The standard distance race incorporated a 8.6 km run (2 laps) followed by an exhilarating 38.8 km cycle (9 laps) and a final run lap of 4.3 km, totalling 51.6 km. Sprint distance competitors started with a 4.3 km run (1 lap), followed by a 21.6 km cycle (5 laps) and a final run lap of 4.3 km, covering a total distance of 30.1 km.

 Luke Pollard of RAF Tri Club was dominating the standard distance field by clocking the fastest time on the bike and both run legs and he defended his title in a time of 01:42:35. Runner up David Thomas crossed the finish line in 01:44:34 and Ian Roberts (Champion Systems) took third place in 01:46:39. Louella O'Herlihy of Zoom Tri Club secured the women’s title in 02:02:19, ahead of Jenni Muston who finished in 02:03:57, 7 seconds ahead of third placed Briony Martin.

 In the sprint distance race Ian Lawton, a regular on the Xtra Mile Events scene, claimed the win in a time of 01:00:25. Lewis Eccleston (Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners) came second in 01:00:43, ahead of Djalil Baiou (TFN Tri Club) who crossed the finish line in 01:01:55. The women’s field saw Katy Youle-Grayling and Ellie Gosling (Tri2O) battle it out for the title, with Youle-Grayling finishing 10 seconds ahead of Gosling in a time of 01:12:34. Kirsty Vogan took third place in 01:14:03.

ERDINGER Alkoholfrei had a tent at the finish line, to hand out ice cold samples of the isotonic recovery drink to finishing duathletes. They also helped overall winners to celebrate in style by presenting them with 3 liters of ERFINGER Alkoholfrei on the podium. It was a popular addition to the race and contributed to the great atmosphere.
